NATO is the English acronym for OTAN, but these watch straps have no relation to the North Atlantic Treaty, their origin is in the British Ministry of Defense that wanted a tough solution for the battlefield.

The original specifications were very specific: 20 mm wide and always in Admiralty Gray. The original Nato watch strap is made of highly resistant ballistic nylon.
